Having succeeded at adapting our environment to us (as opposed to primarily adapting our biology to our environment), we are slated to next create our own environment, a hosted network, presumably initially of inanimate matter of silicon, graphite and some inanimate encasing protective material (maybe titanium?) that will comprise a Synthetic Species.

It's what we're up to, it's nearly inevitable, and you're exactly on the right track.

What I can't tell is whether you, like the alien species, have great interest in the next phase of our project of literally becoming one with our greatest tool.
